Be Baptized
Water Baptism is a powerful step of obedience that publicly declares your faith in Jesus Christ. It is a moment where you show others that you have personally trusted Him for your salvation.
When you are baptized, you are submerged under water to identify with the death and burial of Jesus, and then raised out of the water to represent His resurrection and your new life in Him.
The Bible teaches that baptism is the first step of obedience after choosing to follow Christ. It is an outward expression of an inward transformation—a visible declaration of your commitment to Jesus.
Why Be Baptized by Immersion?
We practice baptism by immersion for these important reasons:
-
Jesus was baptized this way (Matthew 3:16)
-
Baptism in the Bible was by immersion (Acts 8:38–39)
-
The word “baptize” means to dip or immerse
-
It clearly represents burial and resurrection (Romans 6:1–11)
What Does Baptism Mean?
Baptism is rich with spiritual meaning:
-
It illustrates Jesus’ death, burial, and resurrection (Colossians 2:12)
-
It represents your new life in Christ (2 Corinthians 5:17)
-
It is a declaration of your faith—not the source of it
Baptism does not save you—only faith in Jesus does (Ephesians 2:8–9). Baptism simply shows the world that you already believe.
Who Should Be Baptized?
Baptism is for every person who has made the decision to follow Jesus (Acts 2:41).
If you have placed your faith in Christ, baptism is your next step.
Why Should I Be Baptized?
-
To follow Jesus’ example (Mark 1:9)
-
Because Jesus commanded it (Matthew 28:19–20)
What About Children?
In the Bible, baptism always follows a personal decision to trust in Christ.
At The Gate Church, we baptize children once they are old enough to understand salvation and personally place their faith in Jesus. When a child makes that decision, we joyfully baptize them (Acts 2:41; Acts 8:12; Acts 10:47–48).
We also offer infant dedication services, where parents commit to raising their child in a Christ-centered home.
When Should I Be Baptized?
You should be baptized as soon as you believe.
There is no need to wait—baptism is your next step after saying yes to Jesus (Acts 2:41). You don’t have to be perfect—just willing and ready.
What Should I Wear?
